First of all, the topic title was "High End vs. High Street". I ashamedly admit that I had no clue what "high street" was -though I assumed it was a British term for what we Yanks call 'drugstore', 'low end' or 'bargain'. Since I don't use mainstream products any longer, I thought about comparing luxury organic brands to their less expensive counterparts, but I realized that they pretty much contain a lot of the same ingredients and offer the same basic results (depending on the brands). I also thought of doing a "natural dupes of popular mainstream products" post, but I want to do a bit more research before tackling that. Thankfully, Gaby gave a few other ideas that we could run with, so I am going to do a list of some of my favorite natural finds from this year, as well as throw in a few that I am lusting after...
Let's get to it, shall we?
1) Devita Absolute Minerals Loose Foundation - No review. I purchased the sample foundation kit in "lights" and I immediately fell in love with the silky, light texture and natural finish this foundation provided. My favorite color in the kit (you get 3) is "Waterford" and it's a very light neutral with very slight pinkish tones to it..not enough to accentuate any redness, just enough to give my pale skin a little "pick me up". The ingredients are all 100% natural, hydrating, nourishing and healing. This powder also lasts me all day without caking, streaking, changing color or fading. This has definitely been a saving grace to my skin these cold, dry winter months! The price may seem steep, but you seriously only need a small amount, so it will last you a long while and the ingredients will actually improve your skin..so to me it's totally worth the splurge!
Price $39.95 for 12grams or $8 for the sample set
Ingredients - Mica (serecite), Zinc oxide, Boron nitride, Hyaluronic acid (vegan source), Aloe barbadensis (ACTIValoe®), Allantoin, Punica granatum (pomegranate) extract, Camellia sinensis (Japanese green tea) leaf extract, Iron oxides. Ingredient labeling adheres to international INCI standards.
2) Silk Naturals Bare Necessities Eye Palettes - This is on my "wishlist" and I hope to get all 3 of these fabulous sets in the near future. If you are a fan of the Urban Decay "Naked Palettes", then you need to check these out! The colors are virtually identical and for half the price of the UD sets! Plus, I don't know about you, but I am very picky about what ingredients I put not just on my skin, but my eyes as well and Silk Naturals only uses pure minerals..no chemical binders or fillers to worry about! :-)
Price - $39.99
Ingredients - Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Magnesium Myristate, Magnesium Stearate, Boron Nitride, Silica Also contains : Iron Oxides, Tin Oxide
3) Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Watermelon - No review. I've been a huge fan of Burt's Bees lip products for a long while, and though some of my green beauty peers may not be down with this company (which I totally understand & respect their reasons), I personally think that it's a better choice than some of the non-green choices for lips out there. Plus, if you are new to green beauty, it's an inexpensive and easy brand that you can purchase in your drugstore, grocery store, etc.. All of that being said, I am in love with this gorgeous shimmery berry color! It's the perfect shade for fair skinned lassies and dark beauties alike. It glides on smoothly, offers the right amount of color and keeps lips soft and moisturized. It's essentially a cross between a lipstick and a glossy lipbalm. I also love the pepperminty flavor!
Price - Varies by store - $5 on their website

4) Burt's Bees Lip Gloss in Starry Night - No review. I'm still playing around with this one, but so far I love the deep, rich purple hue that this gloss imparts. I also like that this isn't "tacky" like other glosses I have used over the years. It delivers high shine and lasting color, two things I look for in a gloss! I definitely want to try out more of the colors in the near future.
Price - Varies by store - $9 on their website
Ingredients - Summer Twilight, Starry Night, Evening Glow, Ruby Moon: ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, oleic/linoleic/linolenic polyglycerides, cera alba (beeswax, cire d'abeille), aroma (flavor)*, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, silica, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, jojoba esters, ammonium glycyrrhizate, tocopherol, glycine soja (soybean) oil. +/- (May contain): CI 77163 (bismuth oxychloride), CI 77861 (tin oxide), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (iron oxides), CI 77019 (mica), CI 75470 (carmine), CI 77891 (titanium dioxide), CI 77947 (zinc oxide). *natural flavor
5) Organic Wear CC Cream in Light - No review. I recently picked this up and I am so glad I did! I've been looking for a good BB or CC cream and I definitely found what I was looking for in this product! It provides amazing coverage, yet feels like you're not wearing anything on your skin, keeps skin hydrated, doesn't cake or get streaky - and for an oily skinned gal like me, that is a huge plus! Since I am still dealing with both acne scars and hyperpigmentation, I do need a bit extra help, so I go over this with my Devita foundation and I am good all day! Organic Wear is another great brand that you can find in drugstores, grocery stores or Target, Walmart, etc., and is a brand I often recommend to anyone starting the transition from mainstream brands to natural. I personally use several of their products and they are all among my absolute favorites!
Price - Varies by store - $14.95 on their website

6) Devita Skincare Prime Corrective - See review here. Though I am not a fan of silicone based primers, I really love this product. And honestly, it's the only one that hasn't caused my skin to erupt in breakouts. I do only use a tiny amount and only when going out, but so far, it's been working amazingly well for me. Silicones aside, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a really effective, more natural based primer.
Price - $27.95

Peace and Love,
~Sabrina
