How to Create A Complete At-Home Day Spa

An afternoon at the spa – we associate this with luxury, pleasure and lush beauty. While a trip to a sauna can be quite costly, you can easily recreate the experience within the comfort of your own home!
A key component to any spa experience is to set the atmosphere; you can transform the home you know so well into a haven of comfort by dimming the electric lights and sparking candles; consider finding aromatherapy candles that have calming scents like lavender or jasmine. To fully engulf yourself in a cocoon of relaxation, turn off your cell phone, leave your computer in the other room, and ask family members and housemates not to bother you for a set amount of time. Make sure you have generally cleared your schedule for after the spa experience so you don’t have to worry about rushing the enjoyment or routinely checking your watch. Have a preset playlist of some of your favorite gentle tunes and prepare a plate of fruits and healthy goodies that you can munch on without guilt. Make sure that you ice water on hand to stay hydrated (place fruit slices in the water to make it extra tasty), as well as a glass of wine or smoothie, if you desire.
Start off by stepping into a steamy bath – make the water silkily wonderful with bath salts. Place a warm washcloth over your face to open up your pores. Next, it’s time to exfoliate to have your skin soft and glowing. Apply a facial mask that is made from natural ingredients and well-suited for your skin type, and make gentle circles over your body with a sugar or salt scrub to exfoliate the dead skin cells. For a more concentrated scrub to even skin tone and texture, dry your face and then apply an at home skin rejuvenating serum, peel or cleanser; you can easily find microdermabrasion kits here so your face is thoroughly clean of free radicals and grime. After rinsing off, use a loofa or pumic stone, scrub away dead skin cells from the bottom of your feet. As you soak away stresses, consider applying a gel eye compress that was previously chilled in the fridge to reduce puffiness (cucumber slices are a classic alternative). When you’re ready to get up from the tub, quickly rinse your body off with a quick shower.
Upon emerging from the shower, rub lotion into your damp skin and then have a fluffy bathrobe waiting to be wrapped around your body (and don’t forget about comfortable slippers). Using body oils or a gel, use your fingers to make circle motions and massage the areas in which you carry your stress (we recommend storing it near a radiator so it’s soothingly warm). A Next, treat yourself with a manicure and pedicure – clean away the cuticles and take your time to be precise.
Treating yourself to a spa-experience is the perfect way to make yourself feel like a goddess; you can use it to start off the week on the right foot, unwind from a stressful day or feel luxurious right before a date. What’s more, to create a spa within your own home is inexpensive and the resources can be used on multiple occasions. So why not set aside a few hours to rejuvenate your body and spirit? After all, you’re worth it!
