Product Obsession: Everyday Minerals Skin Tints and Tinted Lip Butters

Created in 2006 by the gorgeous Carina Menzies, Everyday Minerals is a vegan, cruelty free, GMO-free and completely handmade collection of some of the most exquisite and wearable make-up products I've ever seen.

This eco-friendly company searches the globe to find not only the purest form of naturally sourced ingredients, but also the most cutting edge technologies to make their products stand out from others.

And stand out they do! Not only are the ingredients lovely, but the colors and formulations are simply divine.

Everyday Minerals was one of the first brands I tried when I was switching to more green make up products a few years ago, and I have been a fan ever since.

I was recently fortunate enough to be sent some of their products to review and I'm excited to share my thoughts on them. :-)

1) Skin Tints in Calm & Collected - This made my top 12 products of 2013 list and it's no surprise why - it offers a subtle, almost translucent hint of color, so you won't get that "over bronzed" look, it is suitable for all skin types, and it contains light reflecting minerals so your skin just glows! Another thing I love about this product is that it contains bamboo stem powder, which purifies and clarifies pores for brighter, clearer skin. You can use this product as a bronzer, an eyecolor, or by itself as an all over color to perk up a tired complexion.

Price - $15.99
Ingredients - Mica (CI 77019), Bambusa Arnundinacea (Bamboo) Stem Powder. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

2) Tinted Lip Butters - I was really excited to see lip products back on the EM website as I still have a few of their older products and just love them! I was actually sent four lip butters to test, so I'll do a quick review of each. But before I do that, let me just say that if you are expecting these to offer a heavy lipstick like coverage, you may be a bit disappointed. If, however, you love a sheer wash of color that hydrates as well as enhances your lips, then this is your new holy grail lip product! The ingredient list alone was enough to win me over - usual suspects like castor seed, coconut, and sunflower seed oils and shea butter, and more exotic ingredients such as marula and passionfruit oils as well as murumuru butter that all work together to nourish and hydrate, while meadowfoam seed oil gives a glossy finish.

Left - Rose Petal, Right - Sweet Secret

  • Rose Petal - This color is a shimmery pinky-peach color. I like this for a date night look as it has just the right amount of color for me - not too dark, yet not too light. Just right!
  • Sweet Secret - A warm peachy pink color. This one I think was a tad too peachy for me. It's still a very pretty shade, and I'm going to play with mixing it with the other colors, so we'll see...

Right - Honey Rose Elixir, Left - Nearly Nude

  • Honey Rose Elixir - A cool rose color with a hint of plum. This was my favorite of the four and the one I continue to reach for. It's more subtle than Rose Petal, but still gives my lips just enough color, so it's perfect for day or night (great for that smokey eye/light lip look).
  • Nearly Nude - A gorgeous shimmery brownish nude shade is how I would describe this one. It's very subtle, but kicks your natural lip shade slightly up a notch. The perfect day color.
Price - $6.00
Ingredients - ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed wax, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, passiflora incarnata (passionfruit) seed oil, sclerocarya birrea (marula) seed oil, astrocaryum murumuru seed butter, aroma (flavor)*, sambucus nigra (elderberry) fruit extract, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract. may contain (+/-): mica, titanium dioxide (CI 77891), iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), manganese violet (CI 77742). *natural flavor. *Our products are always vegan and cruelty free. Everyday Minerals can be found on PETA’s list of approved companies.

I was also sent two of their amazing brushes:

3) Flat Top Brush - I am so in love with this brush! The bristles are super soft and dense and gives perfect base application. It's perfect for "stippling" on cream or liquid foundations, touch ups of your powder, and you can get as sheer or full a coverage as want. I honestly like this as much as my Real Techniques brushes! I also love that the handles are made of bamboo, so they are eco friendly as well.

4) Double Perfect Eye-Shadow/Eye-Liner Brush - This brush is great because you can use the oval brush for either eye-shadow or concealer and the slanted brush for eye-liner or brows. What I really love about this brush, besides its versatility, is that the liner/brow bristles are not too thick or wide like others I've used. As someone who has "anorexic" brows, I need a slimmer brow brush and this is perfect.

My overall thoughts - Other than "Sweet Secret" not working out as well as the others, I loved everything that I was sent and I can't wait to see what other creations they come up with down the road! This is definitely one of my favorite mineral make up brands and I will continue to both use and recommend them to others.

Have you ever tried Everyday Minerals? What are your favorite products?

Peace & Love,
~Sabrina
