Guest Post: DIY Lavender & Rosemary Lip Balm by Sonja from Life in Blush

I don't know about you, but I am a sucker for a good DIY beauty recipe, and even though I love to mix up my own concoctions, it's always fun to try out one created by someone else (kind of takes all the guess work and trial and error out of the way..;-D ).

So you can imagine my delight, when the beautiful and talented Sonja from "Life in Blush" was kind enough to contribute her own special DIY recipe to post on my blog. And as someone who loves lip balms more than I do shoes (is that sad?), this post is especially exciting for me.

Thank you again Sonja for this amazing recipe! :-) By the way, if you haven't checked out her blog yet, you need to - it's completely fabulous!

Peace and Love,
~Sabrina

DIY Lavender & Rosemary Lip Balm

When I was a kid, and before I was allowed to wear makeup, I was obsessed the various shades and scents of lip smackers (straight out of the time capsule right?!) because it made me feel like I had an arsenal of lipsticks just waiting to perk up my day. Fast forward a few *ahem* years and I’m still obsessed with lip balms, but it’s a more controlled obsession. How so? Well, the day I came home after purchasing a $30 organic lip balm was the day I told myself that money would have been better spent on a few swanky cocktails because I could have easily made it myself. My first batch of lip balm came out way too mushy and the second one could have cracked a glass wall had you biffed it at it, but as I tweak, modify and perfect my ever-evolving recipe I stumble upon a batch every now and then that’s too good not to share.

lavender & rosemary lip balm

what you’ll need:

·         1 tbsp (15 ml) almond oil
·         1 tbsp (15 ml) shea butter
·         1.5 tsp (7ml) manuka honey beeswax
·         1 tsp (5ml) manuka honey
·         2 drops lavender essential oil
·         2 drops rosemary essential oil
·         1 drop frankincense essential oil

how to put it all together:

·         melt the shea butter and beeswax with the almond oil at low heat
·         remove from heat and add the honey and essential oils
·         whisk contents with a fork or whisk to distribute honey throughout the oil. This is a tricky process so don’t get discouraged! The trick is to whisk it hard and pour before the honey has a chance to settle and separate.

Thanks so much to Sabrina for asking me to spend time with all of you. If you try my recipe out please be sure to let me know what you think!
