Product Obsession - Osmia Organics

Osmia Organics is one of those brands that just about everyone in the green beauty world raves about, and it is really no surprise why.

Osmia, which means "sense of smell", is a brand that takes care to ensure that each and every product is made with the utmost attention to the scent as well as its aromatherapeutic benefits. They also use high quality organic or wild crafted oils, plant butters, herbs, milks and essential oils in their formulations - something I always look for when choosing skincare.

But it's not just what goes into the products that makes them so wonderful, it's what doesn't.

  • Ethoxylated ingredients (this includes “e-wax” or “emulsifying wax”, polysorbates, and things that end in “eth”, all used in many natural skin care products).
  • Parabens and phthalates due to hormonal and endocrine side effect potential.
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate (or other similar sulfates) due to high irritation potential.
  • Petroleum-based ingredients because decreasing dependence on the petroleum industry would be good for this planet. Also, petroleum products have comedogenic (pore blocking) properties. This category includes phenoxyethanol, a petroleum derived ingredient (and an ethoxylated one).
  • Synthetic fragrance, including fragrance oils or fragrance based preservatives (Parfum, for example).
  • Artificial colors
  • Ingredients that involve animal cruelty.

I have been wanting to write a review on their lovely products for quite some time, but never got around to doing one for some reason. I know, I'm a big slacker! Thankfully, they were kind enough to send me some products to share with you. :-)

PR Samples

Before I dive in, I'd like to state that I purposely waited to use these until I was experiencing my usual monthly hormonal breakouts as I wanted to see how well these would work for me! ;-)

Now, onto the goods!

1) Black Clay Facial Soap - I'm going to be honest, I was a bit skeptical using a soap on my face as a cleanser as most facial soaps are way too drying for me. Happily, this was not the case! I am a huge fan of this for my face! It is creamy, hydrating and leaves my skin soft and dewy. I may just need to make this a mainstay in my cleanser collection. It is that good! Created for skin that is normal, problem or combination, it has definitely helped to keep my skin in check and not break out more! Did I mention that I am a fan of this?

Price - $22
Ingredients - saponified oils/butters of olea europaea (olive)*, elaeis guineensis kernel (palm kernel)*, mangifera indica (mango), prunus amygdalus (sweet almond)*, cocos nucifera (coconut)*, ricinus communis (castor bean)*, persea gratissima (avocado)*, and simmondsia chinensis (jojoba)*, coconut milk*, dead sea mud, hematite (australian black) clay, proprietary blend of essential oils*, and rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) antioxidant*, GMO-free vitamin E oil

2) Spot Treatment - Oh my stars and garters! If there was ever a product that is needed by every person who ever has a breakout, it is this one!!! Seriously, this stuff is magic! I've stated before that I love using Lavender, Rosemary and Thyme to bust blemishes, but the Spot Treatment also includes Cajeput, Lemon, Cypress and Parsley oils, all of which are also extremely healing and beneficial for acneic skin. Only a small amount is needed to see results and in as little as a day or two! I honestly cannot imagine life without this in it now!

Price - $20
Ingredients - organic evening primrose oil and essential oils of lavender*, cajeput*, lemon*, parsley, thyme, cypress*, and rosemary CO2* (*organic)

3) Facial Calibration Serum - This serum is an oily skinned gal's dream come true! Formulated to regulate sebum production, it sinks quickly and deeply into skin, leaving it soft and not the least bit greasy. It is so mositurizing that I have not needed to use anything over it, which I love. I would also like to state that this contains oils such as Macadamia and Kukui, which are known to heal scarring, so I am definitely keeping a close eye on my scars to see if it makes a difference. A full size of this is obviously going on my ever expanding wishlist of products to buy! :-)

Price - $50
Ingredients - caprylic/capric triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), olive squalane, aleurites molaccana (kukui) oil, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) oil*, macadamia integrifolia (macadamia nut) oil*, rosa rubiginosa (rosehips) seed oil*, vitus vinifera (grapeseed) oil*, wildcrafted butyrospermum parkii (shea) oil, schisandra sphenanthera (schisandra fruit) CO2, euterpe oleracea (acai) oil, nigella sativa (black seed) oil*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) CO2 extract*, GMO-free vitamin E oil, and a proprietary blend of organic and wild-harvested essential oils

4) Whisper Lip Gloss - A sheer, light pink, this is a great color for Spring or for when you just want to amp up your natural lip tone a bit. Highly moisturizing and glossy, this is a must have for any lip product junkie!

Price - $18
Ingredients - botanically-infused** ricinus communis (castor bean) oil*, GMO-free vitamin E oil, beeswax*, cupuacu butter*, pomegranate sterols, cucurbita pepo (pumpkin seed) oil*, mica, [helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil & lecithin & yeast extract]*, vanilla bourbon co2*

5) Citrus Pearl, Milky Rose & Lavender Mint Soaps - Though I have not gotten around to using these yet, I already know I will love them based on the smell and feel alone, as well as my experience with the Black Clay Facial Soap. They smell divine (not sure which I like best!) and are creamy to the touch. They are also very pretty and I am kind of reluctant to use them up!

Price - $12

My final thoughts - I am so grateful to have been able to use these beautiful and healing products! I am very picky about what I use and what ingredients I will put on my skin, so if I fall all over a product it is because it is truly worthy of praise. Osmia Organics is yet another amazing brand that really does make a difference in the health and appearance of the skin. Add me to the long list of green beauty bloggers and lovers that can't get enough of this brand!

Have you ever tried Osmia Organics? What are your thoughts on their products?

Peace & Love,
~Sabrina
