It's that time again! Topic #6 of the 2014 Blogger Challenge is under full sway and it's all about food this time! :-)

I am firm believer in the idea that what we put in our bodies is crucial not only to total health, but beauty as well. If you feed your body foods that are saturated with chemicals, it will show in your skin. Likewise, if you feed your body pure, whole foods, your skin will reap those benefits.

With that said, here are some of my favorite foods that will make your skin clear, healthy, and young looking.

1) Red Bell Peppers - High in skin brightening and collagen regenerating vitamin C, these delicious peppers are not only low in sugar, but also contain more nutrients than other types of peppers. They are also a great source of silicon, a mineral which keeps skin smooth and youthful. Eat them raw for the most benefit, but you can also enjoy them cooked - just skip the heavy oils and sauces and salts!

2) Avocados - One of my favorite foods, this luscious and creamy fruit will, when eaten often, contribute to a skin that is soft, supple and youthful. Rich in beauty vitamins A,C,E and K and minerals such as potassium, copper and iron, avocados are powerfully anti-aging and anti-inflammatory. Avocado oil is very close in composition to our own skin oils and its fats are good for lubricating the digestive tract, which promotes the absorption of fat soluble vitamins, which in turn makes your cell membranes stronger.

3) Spinach - Another staple in my everyday diet, spinach is a super beauty food! It is high in beta carotene, which converts to vitamin A, a major player in the anti-aging war! Spinach also contains lipoic acid, an anti-oxidant which helps vitamins C & E to regenerate, contributing to youthful skin. I prefer to eat spinach raw to enjoy all of its benefits, but if you prefer to cook it, feel free.

4) Lemons - One of the best fruits to include in your diet if you desire clear skin, lemons are not only high in vitamin C, but also calcium, magnesium and potassium. Lemons also help to purify blood, destroying free radicals and toxins as well as aiding in digestion and helping the liver to function more efficiently. As our bodies primary detoxifying organ, any help given to the liver will result in clearer skin.

5) Sweet Potatoes - Besides containing the skin brightening duo of vitamins A & C, sweet potatoes are also rich in biotin, vitamins B6 and E, as well as iron, potassium, copper, manganese and folate. A low sugar, high fiber vegetable, they help to keep blood sugar levels stable as well protect against inflammation related diseases such as acne. Just skip the brown sugar and butter! I like to cook mine in a little skin friendly organic coconut oil and sprinkle some tumeric on top for extra healing and goodness!

I could list a multitude more, but these 5 I keep in my diet regularly. I think at 43, I'm on the right track! ;-)

What are your favorite healthy foods?

Peace & Love,
~Sabrina
