During my browsing marathons, I've discovered several different brands that have piqued my interest. And a few that have actually found me via Twitter that I just had to check out.
One of those is Sheer Bare Minerals (the shop's name is Mineral Face). If you have ever used Bare Escentuals mineral make-up, then you will appreciate this line. It has a very similar texture and consistency, but without the skin irritating bismuth oxychloride or other "nasties" added to it.
From the website:
"Sheer Bare Minerals is 100% Pure & Natural. Its always Brand New, Fresh & Safely Packaged
- Sheer Bare Minerals gives you a Photo finish every time.
- Sheer Bare Minerals gives you a complete coverage foundation with a very natural look.
- Sheer Bare Minerals will not cause irritated itching skin or acne.
- Mineral makeup is light weight and suitable for all varieties of skin tones.
- Sheer Bare Minerals is a all natural formula &contains Zinc oxide. Zinc is renowned for its sun protecting and skin calming properties.
- Never contains Parabens, Talc, Bismuth, oils or other irritants"
The shop owner, Jessica, very kindly sent me two samples of her foundation to try out. I chose "Fair" and "Fairly Light".
Here are my thoughts on both.
1) Fair - This is the lightest color in the line and is listed as being for complexions that have both pink and yellow tones. I had high hopes that this would match my skin perfectly as the swatch I did on both my hand and jawline seemed to melt seemlessly into my skin. However, my stubborn complexion had other ideas and once on, it didn't match as well as I had thought. I also need a bit more coverage to hide scarring, but for those that prefer a more natural or sheer finish, this is perfect for you.
2) Fairly Light - Unfortunately, this color was way too dark for me. I couldn't even wear it. This would be great for someone with medium skin that has pink and yellow undertones. I will probably end up using this as a contour color.
Price - $9.99 for 30 grams
Ingredients - Iron Oxide, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Clay, Kaolin Clay, magnesium, silica Microspheres.
My overall thoughts: While I was unsuccessful at finding a perfect match (something I continually struggle with), and the coverage wasn't as full as I need, I really did love the texture and feel of the product. It didn't cake or streak or irritate my skin. It offered a nice matte finish, which for my oily skin is always a plus. Also, let's not overlook the price point, which is just downright cheap for the size you get!
All in all, I would definitely say that Mineral Face is worth checking out. I should also point out that you can request a custom order, which is another huge plus!
Have you ever tried Mineral Face? What are your thoughts?
Peace and Love,
~Sabrina
