With Her Nose Stuck In A Book...Or Several: A Preview Of My Current Reading List!

Reading makes my heart and brain happy! :-) <3

I've had a love affair with books for as long as I can remember. The first book I really recall reading (and at age 9 or 10) was "Star Wars" by George Lucas, then moving on to Stephen King - yeah, I was never a "normal" kid by any means! I won't even go into my comic book obsession..#nerdgirl

In college, I was nicknamed "Belle" by my friends because I was never without a book in front of my face - this was cool by me, since I was a Music Major and I was playing the part of Belle in one of our performances..also, I love Disney Princesses (don't judge!).

Anyhoo...I love books. Not books on Kindle or tape or cd...but words written/typed on paper, bound together in a nice, decorative cover. For me, nothing beats the feel or even the smell of a real book!

And that little tidbit brings me to today's post. I've had the pleasure of reading several highly informative natural health books lately and I'd like to share a bit about them.

1) The Whole Health Diet by Mark Mincolla, Ph.D. - An "anti-diet" diet plan, this book provides the reader with a path to attain true holistic health and balance. Dr. Mincolla combines ancient Chinese energy techniques with the latest in nutritional science while also using Electromagnetic Energy Testing (EMT) to connect all the dots - metabolic, dietary, nutritional, physiological and spiritual to help readers achieve their ideal weight and optimal health. I see a naturopath who uses energy testing so this book really resonated with me! It was interesting to learn even more about this approach to discovering what your body needs in order to be healthy!

2) Essential Oils For Beauty, Wellness & Home by Alicia Atkinson - Everything you need to know about essential oils can be found right here in this simple, yet comprehensive guide! From their history, many uses and benefits to DIY recipes, this book covers it all. A great resource for both those who are new to essential oils and those who have more experience with them and are looking for some great new ways to use them!

3) Healing Ways: An Integrative Sourcebook by Matilde Parente, M.D., F.C.A.P - This book delves into how conventional medical therapies can work alongside complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Matilde Parente shows the reader how to talk to your doctor about CAM, expectations, cautions and myths, how to decide which methods are best for you and how to be a better health consumer.

4) The Planet Friendly Diet by Cat Smiley - A 21-day zero-waste meal program that will not only help you lose weight and maintain your optimal health but will also help you save money while lessening your environmental impact at the same time. Some really great tips and recipes (borrowing flavor profiles from all around the world), plus a food journal to help you keep track of what you are eating! A few of those recipes on my "must make" list include the "Kick-Ass Mango Curry" (Malaysian inspired), the "El Cheapo (Jamaica), and the "Wonder Bean Quinoa" (Peru) just to name a few. I'll update how they come out! ;-)

5) Heal Your Gut With Bone Broth by Robin Weston - The benefits of Bone Broth are many, and this book covers them in detail, as well as the history, how to make it, and other recipes, tips and health info. If you suffer from any digestive, hormonal, adrenal, allergies or inflammatry issues, this book is a must read!

6) Medicinal Plants At Home by Maria Transito Lopez Luenco & Carlotta Manez Ariso - Learn how to turn your home and backyard into your own personal pharmacy with this book! Discover the most useful plants and spices to have in your kitchen, which plants are most beneficial for respiratory, digestive or circulatory concerns to name a few, some DIY recipes and so much more!

What is on your reading list? Would you like to see more reading lists from TBE in the future? Let me know - I have tons of books I can cover! ;-)

Peace & love,

Sabrina xoxo
