DIY Raw Chocolate Face Mask...Because..Chocolate!

Happy Friday loves! This week I thought I would mix things up a bit and do a DIY post instead of a "Flashback Friday" post. I have so many recipes floating around in my head that I really need to just start making and sharing them with you guys!

I submitted this recipe for a blogger collaboration over the Summer that Annie from Hello Purple Clouds put together and recently decided that I wanted to share this on my blog as well. I hope to find the time to create more DIY recipes as I absolutely love doing them!

For this mask, I chose raw chocolate as my ingredient inspiration because, well because I am a bona fide chocoholic! But also because the benefits of this delicious superfood make it the perfect base for a healing skin treat! Like now, when my skin is all broken out with hormonal acne. Ugh...

In addition to the chocolate, I used various spices that I know work well for my skin, but feel free to adjust the amounts or to add or leave out ingredients to suit your skin type. This mask is not only anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant, but it is extremely hydrating and nourishing as well. My skin was super soft after I used this! :-D

What you will need:

Ingredients:

1 teaspoon Raw Cacao Powder
½ teaspoon Cinnamon
½ teaspoon Nutmeg
⅛ teaspoon Tumeric
pinch of Cayenne Pepper
1 drop Clove Essential Oil
Water (enough to make a thick paste)

Tools:

Measuring spoons, small metal whisk, glass bowl/container

Directions:

Mix ingredients in a bowl until it becomes a thick, chocolately paste, but resist the urge to eat it! :-) Once it is mixed well, apply onto cleansed skin and let sit for about ten minutes. To remove, use a warm, wet washcloth and gently wipe off. Rinse with tepid water to get all traces off and follow with a toner and face oil or moisturizer. Your skin will be simply glowing!

What is your favorite DIY recipe for glowing skin? Would you like to see more DIY recipes here on my blog? Let me know below!

Peace & love,

Product Obsession: Eu2Be Skincare

Eu2Be (say it "you to be") is a natural skincare brand that is made here in the USA in small batches and contains nourishing ingredients sourced from Brazil. These lovely products do not contain parabens, sulfates, phthalates, GMO's, and are gluten and cruelty free, all of which made me want to try them! And let me say, once I did I was not disappointed!

Born out of founder Charla Jones' desire to create a new conversation about beauty, Eu2Be takes great care to use a well rounded "diet" of natural ingredients to keep skin healthy and beautiful.

PR Samples
Influenced by the rich, diverse culture of Brazil, each of Eu2Be's products contain carefully selected ingredients from this beautiful and colorful country.

"Eu2Be products are formulated with a world of ingredients,
and with each iteration of our product lines, we feature
ingredients from a specific country.

First stop: Brazil, a place where a glowing smile,
not your skin tone or body type, defines your beauty."

1) Shower + Soak Soap - Inspired by Carnaval, this luxurious body wash does not contain any harsh detergents, just hydrating oils such as Babassu, Maracuja and Buriti to name a few, and the scent is exotic and sexy. I definitely felt like I was transported to some island paradise as I used this!

Price - $35 for 8oz
Ingredients - Saponified Oils of Olive, Coconut, Castor and Palm, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Sodium Tetra Borate, Orbignya Oleiferia (Babassu) Oil, Passiflora Edulis (Maracuja) Seed Oil, Oriza Sativa (Rice Bran) Oil, Mauritia Flexuosa (Buriti) Seed Oil, Fragrance

2) Enrich + Radiate Oil - This gorgeous body oil draws its inspiration from Curupira, a mythical figure of Brazilian folklore who is the defender of forests and reminds us that things are not always what they seem. At first glance, this may seem just like any other body oil, but once you use it, you quickly realize that is not the case! Formulated with a blend of deeply penetrating and nourishing oils that are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, such as Broccoli Seed, Tamanu (one of my faves!) and Maracuja, this product makes your skin feel silky and baby soft all day long. I honestly can't get enough of this oil!

Price - $50 for 4oz or $30 for 2oz
Ingredients - Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Dicaprylyl Ether, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Oryza Sativa (Rice Bran) Oil, Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil, MacadamiaTernifolia Seed Oil, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Seed Oil, Mauritia Flexuosa (Buriti) Seed Oil, Passiflora Edulis (Maracuja) Seed Oil, Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) Seed Oil, Canarium Indicum (Nangai) Oil, Copaifera Officinalis (Balsam Copaiba) Resin, Bertholletia Excelsa (Brazil Nut) Seed Oil, Calophyllum Tacamahaca (Tamanu) Seed Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Fragrance

3) Nurture + Nourish Lotion - Just like the Brazilian rituals of Candomble, this silky and decadent lotion was designed to bring out our inner beauty and help us discover our own magic. Using 13 of the most conditioning oils around, such as Avocado, Broccoli Seed, Brazil Nut and Mango, this lotion is pure bliss to both skin and your senses. The deep, earthy, floral fragrance is one of the most intoxicating scents I've ever smelled (I really hope they create a perfume of this scent!) and it absorbs deeply into skin without being greasy. I do want to note that this product contains the preservative phenoxyethanol for those who try and avoid it. That being said, I am over the moon obsessed with this lotion, phenoxyethanol be damned! This product is just that good!

Price - $40 for 8oz
Ingredients - Water, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Dicaprylyl Ether, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Sclerotium Gum, Beeswax, Sucrose Polycottonseedate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Oryza Sativa (Rice Bran) Oil, Brassica Campestris/Aleurites Fordi Oil Copolymer, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) Seed Oil, Passiflora Edulis (Maracuja) Seed Oil, Bertholletia Excelsa (Brazil Nut) Seed Oil, Copaifera Officinalis (Balsam Copaiba) Resin, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Canarium Indicum (Nangai) Oil, Calophyllum Tacamahaca (Tamanu) Seed Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Seed Oil, Fragrance

Tea Time! You BeauTea for Beautiful Skin

The health and beauty benefits of tea is well documented. And while I do enjoy my morning cup of (organic, fair trade) coffee, I also love to drink my share of herbal teas. I normally drink tea to help with my health issues, but I was recently introduced to a tea that includes collagen and vitamin C for some serious skin benefits as well.

Collagen is a protein found in the connective tissues and is important in keeping out joints, nails, and skin healthy.  While our bodies do produce collagen naturally, that production diminishes as we grow older (boo!!).  Even worse, this can end up resulting in wrinkles, thinning skin, and even brittle nails.  The good news is that vitamin C is shown to help increase and build collagen, counteracting the diminished production.

While many skin care companies incorporate both in their formulations, I've found that incorporating them into my daily supplement regimen as well gives even more noticeable results. And drinking them in a delicious and healthy tea is the perfect way to do it in my opinion!

Setting the "mood" for tea time! *PR samples

You BeauTea is a newly launched Australian based company that just introduced their Raspberry Collagen Tea. I was fortunate enough to be sent a few samples to try and it was love at first sip!

"The ultimate tea to enhance your inner beauty. Drinking this beautiful tea will assist with your natural health and beauty and aid in reducing fine lines and wrinkles, strengthening your nails and making your hair shine. You Beautea is sourced from Japan, a country where the women are famous for their flawless skin."

Fruity, with just a hint of natural sweetness, this tea is enjoyable as is. Nothing else needs to be added. And the ingredients, which are ethically sourced from Japan, work together to heal, nourish, comfort and beautify skin, body and soul.

Ingredients - Collagen peptide (fish) Uva tea, stevia, orange peel, Rose hip, Honeysuckle flower, Chamomile, Peppermint, Marshmallow root, Vitamin C and Raspberry Flavour

Each tea bag contains 102 mg of vitamin C and 2000 mg of collagen. It is also preservative and caffeine free.

Show Foster Kids Some Love This Valentine's Day With These Soaps From Luminance Skincare!

One of my favorite skincare brands, Luminance Skincare (read my review here), is doing something really awesome this Valentine's Day. Not only have they created some beautiful, heart shaped organic soaps for the holiday, but they have partnered with Beyond Emancipation, an organization that helps young adults who've grown up in the foster care system. This Oakland based organization provides a range of supportive programs to help these youths make healthy, successful transitions into adulthood and independent living.

As part of their partnership, Luminance is graciously donating $14 of every sale of these Limited Edition Soap Sets to the organization! Think of how many young people this could help!

As for the soaps themselves, read on to learn more! :-)

First, here are a few facts about the soaps:

100% vegan,
made with 12 plant and seed oils
Hydrating and nourishing to skin
Lathers up extremely well for shaving
Completely non-toxic
Made without any synthetic ingredients
Non-drying
Hand-made

Can be used to scent lingerie or sock drawers
Limited edition scent available until the end of February

The scent is a delightful combination of spicy ginger and fruity peach and the lather is rich, creamy and deeply moisturizing. I love that it rinses clean, without leaving my skin dry or with that "filmy" soap feeling. This also works great as an alternative to shaving cream, and you don't need to worry about any of the nasty synthetic ingredients most shaving creams contain either! I've been very impressed with everything I have tried from Luminance, and this soap is no exception! I highly recommend it - for both the delicious scent and the hydration benefits it provides to your skin!

Price - $15 (for the 3 soap set)
Ingredients - Purified Water, Oils: Coconut, Palm (Orangutan friendly), Jojoba, Apricot Kernel, Macadamia, Avocado, Palm Kernel, Meadowfoam, Argan, Kukui,Grape Seed and Rice Brand. Clays: White Benonite, French Green & Red Moroccan. Scents: Ginger Peach Essential Oils. To Saponify: Food Grade Sodium Hydroxide*

* A few words about Sodium Hydroxide: It is not synthetic.  It is the traditional base component that when added to the fatty acids (the seed and fruit skin oils) to create an reaction resulting in cold process soap. The most gentle skin loving variety of soaps. When the formulation is done right, and we do it by hand is small batches, with engineering precision, all of the Sodium Hydroxide reacts with all of the oils, and clays and essential oils into a wonderfully fragrant, perfectly gentle and safe bar of soap.

Product Obsession: Joe Scrub

I love a good face/body scrub. I love coffee. Put the two together and you get joeSCRUB, an all natural, handmade, vegan and cruelty free coffee scrub out of Toronto, Canada that is not only rejuvenating to the senses, but fights against cellulite, acne, scars, eczema, psoriasis and dry skin. Whew! Talk about multi-tasking!

I was fortunate enough to be sent a bag of "joe" to try out and now I want to share my thoughts with you. :-)

Product was generously sent to me for review

So, the first thing I noticed when I opened the package was the intense and quite pleasant coffee aroma! Definitely perked me right up! Then, underneath that delicious coffee scent were intoxicating hints of chocolate, coconut and jasmine. Words cannot even explain how delightful this combo is!

And if you can tear your nose out of the bag long enough (it's not an easy task, trust me), you'll discover just how incredibly pampering this scrub is to your skin. I used this on my face as well as my body (letting it sit the recommended 5-10 minutes for maximum results) and let me just say that my skin was beyond soft and hydrated afterwards!

Formulated for all skin types, including sensitive, this scrub works to exfoliate away dead skin cells, release toxins and stimulate and increase circulation, all without being overly abrasive (though if you have extremely sensitive skin, you may want to skip using it on your face)! The coffee scent lingers for a while after you rinse it off, which as a coffee lover, I find quite appealing!

As tempting as it is, this "joe" is not meant to be consumed!

Learn more about "joe's" awesome ingredients here

Price - $16
Ingredients - see above picture! :-)

My final thoughts -  As a fan of both coffee and scrubs, "joe" hits it out of the park for me! The scent, the texture, the ingredients, the way my skin feels oh so baby smooth after and the uplifting feeling I get after using this - all makes this one of the best scrubs I've ever tried!

Are you a fan of coffee scrubs? Have you ever tried joeScrub before? What are your thoughts?

Flashback Friday: Interview with Jill Stacey from Elaa Skincare

Happy Friday my loves! For this Friday's flashback post, I want to pay tribute to a woman who has not only been a major inspiration in my own journey to wellness, but a great friend as well -  the lovely Jill Stacey (formerly Bickford).

Read on to find out why I am so in love with this woman and her beautiful skincare line! :-)

This post was first published on July 26, 2013..

Interview with Jill Stacey from Elaa Skincare

I am beyond excited and honored to share my very first interview here on my humble little blog. I wanted my first interview to be with someone who has not only inspired me to live a much healthier life, but who also has helped and inspired others through nutritional coaching, as well as skincare. So, I couldn't think of anyone better than the beautiful Jill Stacey, founder and creator of elaa skincare, a living, raw organic skincare unlike any other.

Jill is one of the warmest, most genuine people I've ever had the privilege of connecting with, and it was her story of how she struggled with and triumphed over a multitude of debilitating diseases that put me back on my own path of natural healing. It was through her that I first heard of the raw vegan lifestyle and after reading how she completely healed herself by eating an organic, raw plant based diet and using organic, raw, living plant based skincare, I knew I needed to change how I lived and how I looked at skincare.

When I found out that she had created her own skincare line, I couldn't wait to find out more (and I can't wait to try it out!!), so I reached out to Jill and asked her a few questions about it. Read on to find out more..:-)

The beautiful & radiant Jill Stacey!

1) What inspired you to create your own skincare line?
Skincare has always been an important part of my life. From a few months old and throughout my life, I suffered with various skin conditions, like psoriasis, acne, and more. Over all, I have very sensitive skin. To this day I still get rashes on my body in reaction to various things. For over 20 years, I tried almost every line of skincare out there, in hopes of improving my skin. But, nothing I tried helped, and in many cases actually caused more harm. I began to study nutrition and skincare and discovered that I just needed to hit the “reset” button and restore my body to a more natural and healthy state of being. I detoxed myself from chemical skincare and began using healthy skincare and eating natural, living foods. Most of my chronic health conditions and skin conditions not only improved, but healed completely. Nutrient-dense foods, wild foods, and superfoods took things to the next level for me. I started experimenting with skincare and found that the exact same principles applied - Feed your skin like you feed your body. I achieved the best results with nutrient-dense wild, organic, and superfoods, living, enzymatically alive, active ingredients on my skin. The results have been quite remarkable. There is nothing else out there that had the types of ingredients that I wanted to use. I wanted the best, I wanted to use only the most alive, nutrient-dense ingredients, so I chose to create my own. When I experienced how passionate and alive I felt when I created these products and how much I could help others transform their lives, like I had transformed my own, I knew this was something that I needed to do.
Once I began been formulating, crafting, and using my own skincare, I received so many compliments on my skin . This has been quite astounding to me, because I was someone who lived with “bad” skin much of my life. It’s amazing how feeding your skin with living, active superfoods and plants truly affects not only the quality of your skin, but the quality of your life. Everything that you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body. Chemicals, preservatives, and fragrances have a profound affect on your health. They can cause reproductive and nervous system diseases, cancer, any other serious bodily disturbances. So, healthy skincare means more than just healthy skin, it means a healthy body and a better quality of life.
My body is sacred, so I treat myself that way. I love and honor myself with these products and my desire is to share that with you. Your body is sacred and that is the core inspiration behind creating this skincare line.
While I have insecurities, self-punishment, and self-doubt like a lot of people, at the core I love myself. My love expresses in many different ways in how I live my life and take care of myself. While taking care of my body is not the most important thing that there is in life, it still matters. It’s a daily way I love myself and show myself that I matter. When I’m feeling stressed, am moving too quickly, or am not feeling myself, something as small as taking the space and time to apply something truly nurturing and beautiful to my skin, to touch my body, feel and just be. . . . centers, grounds, and enlivens me. It brings me back to me. This skincare line is created to honor you and inspire you.

2) How is “elaa” different from other natural skincare lines out there?
elaa is not just a skincare line, it’s an expression and creation of love, care, and passion. Everything you experience with elaa, from the products, to the design, to the packaging, to the service comes from me and is personal and caring. It’s about honoring You. elaa really is more than just products, it’s a place to connect -  about skincare, health, and more. It’s a resource and a place to come where You are celebrated. elaa is for complete wellness. I also offer Health Coaching and/or Beauty Coaching. elaa is also a place where I share wonderful, informative articles, tips, and recipes.
I realize that like diets, there is no one size fits all. We are all one-of-a-kind and what works for one person may not work for another. So, I do my best to cater to as many different people, skin types, scent preferences, and desired results as possible. And, if someone has needs that are special, I formulate and create custom products to suit exactly who they are.
As far as the actual products, they are truly one-of-a-kind as well. Each product is lovingly formulated, created, and handcrafted by me. My formulas are unique and quite special. I deeply care. I don’t do anything half-heartedly, so when I do something, I go for it. elaa really is about going for it all the way. elaa is about soaring. . . using the most nutrient-dense, active, alive ingredients possible for the ultimate results, the reach your highest heights of aliveness, health, and beauty. Reaching your skin and body’s highest potential.
elaa products are:

3) What would be the best product(s) for someone new to your line to try?
We are all beautifully one-of-a-kind, so I like to recommend products based on the individual. Contact me, let me know what you’re looking, and I’ll make a personalized recommendation.
You really can’t go wrong with anything, everything smells glorious, feels wonderful, and is ultra-nutritious. Bee Beauty was my first ever skincare creation, so it’s a “classic” that you can never go wrong with and it can serve many purposes.
I suggest going to the site, spending some time, and feeling what you are naturally drawn to, Or, if you are looking for help with a skin issue, look for a product made for that purpose, there are several options. And, please contact me for suggestions or with questions, I really look forward to connecting with you and helping you fulfill your skincare and health needs, desires, and dreams!
I also  share a lot of suggestions, tips, and special offers through my newsletter, so sign up to stay connected.
4) What is your personal skincare regimen like?
I like a lot of variety for my skin to get maximum nutrition, so I tend to rotate among all of my products.
My basic regimen includes:
2) Toner: either Gingko Hibiscus Pomegranate Skin Lifting Mist or Moonlight Mist or Citrus Sunrise
3) Eye Serum: Starlight Eye Nectar
4) Moisturizer: I also like to rotate among: Superfood Dream Cream, Rose Vanilla Antioxidant FaceCream,  Bee Beauty, and Rose Neroli Ambrosia Skin Silk
5) Lip Treatment: Rose Vanilla Lip Cream Gel
I also exfoliate 1 - 3 times per week, depending on what I am using and how my skin is feeling. Some people need to exfoliate daily. Here’s my favorite facial scrub: Cacao Goji Berry Antioxidant Facial Scrub. It’s chocolatey, nutty, and fruity deliciousness and gives a great polish for a wonderful glow.

I also use a Mask 1 - 2 times per week to deliver extra nutrients and deep clean my skin. I exfoliate with the Cacao Goji Scrub first, then apply a mask, my favorite mask right now is Rhassoul Matcha Skin Clearing Detox Mask

I like to feel what I need or want that day and go from there, so I like to have options available both for myself and for you on my site. Everyday is different and I like to be with that. Maybe one day, my skin feels like it just needs a serum and not an additional moisturizer. Maybe one morning I feel like I don’t need to cleanse, but instead I need to exfoliate and then use two different serums and twice as much moisturizer as usual. So, there are general steps and types of products that are good to follow and have for ideal skincare, but I also believe in “living” skincare usage that flows with the needs and desires of each day. I recommend having at hand the full range of products that you need, plus a few more for delight, and enjoy and use as you feel inspired to each day.
5) How important are ingredients in skincare? Is there such a thing as “too much of a good thing” in regards to certain ingredients?
Ingredients are everything. You want skincare that is nutrient-dense; skincare that feeds your skin with all the nutrition it needs, just like food. You don’t want food that is all fillers, processed, or devoid of any real nutrition. As your body’s largest organ, your skin needs nutrition too. You can’t get all of your nutrients from just two or three foods, you need a wide variety to get the full spectrum of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, omega fatty acids, etc, that the body needs. The same applies to skincare. You want a variety of ingredients to fulfill the full spectrum of nutrients that the skin needs.
It’s about proper balance - of course there is no need to have ten ingredients that all deliver Vitamin C to the skin, but rather you want ingredients that each deliver their own unique nutrients, working together to provide complete nutrition for the skin. These ingredients should work synergistically together. So, it’s not about adding the kitchen sink of ingredients to one product, but rather targeted ingredients that work together to achieve the desired result.

7) What does “beauty” mean to you?
Beauty is an external expression of Love. Nature is infinite Beauty, it’s Love expressed in so many forms. The same is true for us. At essence, every body is beautiful on the outside and every person is beautiful on the inside because we are made of Love. Every curve of our body and every inch of our skin is miraculously beautiful. The people who are healthy, vital, and are able to be fully who they truly are, are the most beautiful. People who are Real are the most beautiful, because the Love inside of them is coming out and expressing through them. And I don’t mean “happiness” expressing when I say this, pain and anger is Love just as much as joy is, as long as it’s expressed truthfully and from the heart. So, Love expressing in every form is beautiful.
elaa is about promoting and enhancing who you are at your core, your natural beauty. When you are healthy and lovingly caring for yourself with the most transformational products and ways possible, you are the most alive and healthy you can be, and thus you are your most beautiful you.
8) If you had one piece of advice for women looking to choose more natural products, what would it be?
Empower yourself to choose what’s right for you. First do some learning - learn to recognize ingredients so you know which ones are unsafe and which ones are safe. Read labels and steer clear of chemicals, synthetics, preservatives, and fragrance. Find out how to recognize these ingredients when you see them on a label. Once you have that understanding, use and trust your senses. You can tell by smell and feel if a product is truly natural and how it’s made. And above all, use your intuition, you can feel what’s right for you. Trust that.

Have you tried Elaa Skincare? What are your thoughts?

Peace & Love,
~Sabrina xx

Brand Obsession: Holiskin

Holiskin is a new, natural skincare brand that focuses on creating healthy organic products that are effective as well as affordable.

They use pure plant oils that have been cold pressed without the use of any solvent (hexane free) and are mostly unrefined, unbleached and have not been deodorized so that they retain their nutritional benefits. Their formulations are free from harsh chemicals/preservatives, synthetic ingredients or petro-chemicals and are never tested on animals!

I was thrilled when owner Joshua reached to me to see if I wanted to try their products. After reading up on the ingredients, I was more than happy to accept!

Here is what I received:

1) Refresh Facial Oil Cleanser - Since I started using an oil cleanser as part of my nightly skincare routine, I honestly can't imagine ever being without one! This beautiful cleanser hits all the right notes with me, with both ingredients and performance. The uplifting citrus scent refreshes the senses, reduces mental fatigue and relieves stress, while Camellia and Rice Bran Oils provide EFA's as well as anti-oxidants to protect the skin from pre-mature aging. This also includes a nourishing combination of essential oils - Bergamot (detoxification), Neroli (stimulates growth of healthy new skin cells), and Pettigran (anti-acne) which all work together to clarify, tone and firm skin. Besides the ingredients and scent, I really love that my skin feels hydrated rather than greasy after using this (if your skin does feel greasy afterwards, try using a bit less next time), and my skin seems to break out less since I added this to my nightly routine.

Price - $20 for 2oz
Ingredients - Camellia sinensis (Camellia) seed oil*, Oryza sativa (Rice bran) oil*, Limnanthes alba (Meadowfoam) seed oil, Ricinus communis (Castor) seed oil, Tocopherol (Non-GMO Vitamin E), a proprietary blend of organic and wildcrafted essential oils: Bergamot, Neroli, Petitgrain, Litsea Cubeba.
*ORGANIC

2) Organic Neroli Apple Cider Vinegar Facial Toner - This lovely facial toner combines two of my favorite ingredients for acne prone or aging skin - Organic Neroli and Raw Apple Cider Vinegar. Neroli contains anti-bacterial and skin regenerating properties, while the Apple Cider Vinegar restores a healthy ph to the skin. Vinegar also contains malic acid, which gently exfoliates, helping to keep skin clear and smooth. Note: If you are not a fan of the way Apple Cider Vinegar smells, Holiskin does have a Neroli Toner without it.

Price - $15 for 2oz
Ingredients - Citrus aurantium amara Flower Distillate*, Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar*.
*ORGANIC

3) Renewal Facial Oil Serum for Oily Acne Prone Skin (roll on) - There is so much goodness in this serum that I don't know where to even begin! This contains Sacha Inchi, Camellia and Evening Primrose oils which are rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9 essential fatty acids, and Helichrysum, Lavender, Patchouli and Frankincense essential oils, which are known for their skin healing and regenerating properties (making them great for acne and acne scarring!). Benefits of this serum include:

- Promotes wound healing
- Protects against free radical damage
- Reduces inflammation and infection
- Helps improve skin elasticity
- Helps reduce stress and anxiety
- Soothes irritated skin
- Reduces the appearance of tiny age lines

I absolutely adore this serum! It absorbs deeply and fairly quickly and leaves my skin looking refreshed and glowy in the morning. My only wish is that it came with a dropper instead of a roller, as I find it hard to get enough product with a roll on (maybe I'm challenged, but I find droppers easier to distribute product). Chickweed & Blush Gets a Little Make-Over!

Hey loves! Happy Saturday! I just wanted to write a quick little post and let you know (if you haven't already noticed) that my blog has undergone a slight make over! Don't get me wrong, I loved my previous layout, but I decided I wanted something a little more clean, yet still feminine in a more grown up way, if that makes sense! :-)

And though I did not design the template (I found this on Etsy here), I did do all of the installation and tweaking where needed, and for me that is a big deal! :-)

Anyhoo...let me know what you guys think and if anything should be changed!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Flashback Friday - "My Tips for Looking Younger than my Age!"

Since my 44th (gasp!) birthday is quickly looming before me, I thought this little blast from the past was appropriate to share! I honestly can't believe how fast the years are just whizzing by! It seems like only yesterday I was graduating High School and now..well, I'll leave it at that. ;-)

I'd also like to note that in addition to the tips listed below, I strive to always include a green smoothie, supplements, dry brushing and facial exercises/massage as part of my regimen (forgot to mention some of these when I first published this whoops!), and I have also since then added many new products to my daily/nightly routine as well. :-)

This post was first written July 11, 2013 (a different picture was used in this post than what's in the original).

My Tips for Looking Younger than my Age!

Whenever I tell anyone my age, they always look at me like I am either joking or crazy. It should be annoying, but honestly, I love that look of disbelief on people's faces when they hear my age. It keeps me motivated to continue living the lifestyle I committed myself to, and of course it's a great self esteem boost, not going to lie. ;-)

Not that I believe that a number defines how aged or youthful a person looks, but I think that for decades society has created certain pre-conceived notions as to what we should look like at certain ages. For instance, when we think of someone who is 23, our brains are immediately programmed to associate that age with youth, and youth is generally associated with beauty. At the same time, a person who is 42 (which happens to my age), is immediately associated with grey hair, fine lines, slowing metabolism, and other not so appealing "maturing" attributes.

Accurate? No. I've known dozens of girls 10-20 years younger than me, that actually look older than I do. And on the same token, I've known women my age who look 10+ years older and a few who look younger.

My point is, I don't believe that the age of a person determines their true "youthfulness" or "maturity", I think that it is a combination of a variety of factors that makes one "young" or "old".

How do I fight the stigma of age? Well, for starters, I was blessed with good genes. On both sides of my family. But genes alone don't make or keep you looking young.  So here are some of my tips for staving off "Father Time" for as long as possible. ;-)

Far left - me at 34. Middle - me at 41. Right - me now at 43
  1. The sun is not my friend, it's an acquaintance. While sunlight is very important to our health for synthesizing its rays into vitamin D in our bodies, too much can cause the skin to age quicker (not to mention the whole skin cancer nastiness). If I am going outside (and even if I am indoors), I always wear a natural sunscreen, or a plant oil serum that contains natural sunscreen. Some of my favorite sun protectors are Sequoia Beauty serums, Naturopathica sunscreen, and Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques creme foundation with spf
  2. Water, water, water. This one is a no brainer. Water keeps you hydrated. Hydrated skin is healthy skin as water helps to flush toxins out and keeps your skin clear and smooth. You can read my full post on the beauty benefits of water here
  3. Exercise. Ok, so to be honest, the past year this one has been tough for me as I have been recovering from back surgery and haven't been able to really do more than my PT exercises (happily, I never really gained any weight so getting back into shape shouldn't be too bad), but we all know the benefits exercise has on us, so I don't really need to elaborate much. The important thing is to do something you enjoy. :-)
  4. Diet. This one I believe has the biggest impact on how we not only look and feel, but how quickly we age as well. I truly believe, and cannot stress this enough, that a diet high in raw, organic fruits, veggies and other plant foods is key in maintaining youth and beauty, while diets high in processed, fast foods only speed up the aging process. You can read more on this here and here
  5. Nix the cosmetic chemical cocktails and switch to natural, organic skincare and make-up. Just like it's important to be mindful of what we are putting into our bodies, we also need to use the same care with regards to what we are putting on it. Our bodies absorb up to 70% of what we put on it, so it really does matter what products you use! Since I made the switch to natural. organic products, I've noticed my skin looking younger than it did when I was in my 20's. Even my husband tells me I look like I am aging backwards! :-) There are so many great brands out there, but a few (some you can buy samples of to try) that I love include Annmarie Gianni Skincare Lauren Brooke CosmetiquesThe All Natural FaceVapour Organic BeautySkin Owland Sequoia Beauty
  6. Sleep. It's obvious that when we get a good night's sleep that we feel better, but adequate sleep also helps us to look better too. While we are sleeping, our body is using that time to repair, replenish and recharge us. Lack of sleep disrupts these functions and can cause a whole slew of health and beauty issues, such as weight gain, puffy eyes, lack luster skin, etc. If sleep doesn't come easy, there are many natural ways to help relax your body and ease you into a blissful "beauty sleep". Some things I do when I have a hard time sleeping - deep breathing, read, take valerian root (tea or supplement), take a calcium & magnesium supplement.
  7. Attitude. This is a big one. People with negative attitudes tend to look miserable and frown or don't smile as much, which to me, makes them look older. Conversely, people with positive attitudes tend to smile and laugh more, which not only makes them more fun to be around, but they look younger and more radiant as well. :-)
  8. No smoking please. Even if I wanted to (which I don't..ew), I'm allergic to something(s) in cigarette smoke, so I tend to avoid it like the plague. I think this, combined with tanning and excessive drinking, ages women quicker than anything. I blame Hollywood for "glamourizing" smoking. Sorry ladies, there is nothing sexy, glamorous, or beautifying about smoking. :-/
  9. Love. It may seem "hokey", but there is scientific evidence that being in love can actually make women look younger. How? When we're happy in our relationship, our bodies produce oxytocin, which triggers the release of DHEA, an anti-aging hormone that restores cells. Love also reduces stress, makes us feel better about ourselves and motivates us to take better care of ourselves. My husband is probably one of the biggest factors in my youthfulness. :-)

Well, there you have it. My secrets. The thing is, being a specific age doesn't make you more or less attractive. Health and attitude make us more attractive. The better we take care of ourselves on the inside, the more it shows on the outside. Health is youth. Health is beauty.

What are your tips for looking youthful? I'd love to know your tips and secrets!
