PiperWai Deodorant - My New Favorite Natural Deodorant!

Since switching to natural deodorants, I've had a somewhat hard time finding one that truly holds up, that doesn't stain my underarms or my clothes, doesn't smell weird and above all, doesn't leave me a sweaty, smelly mess when it's hot/humid out or after working out.

Enter PiperWai Natural Deodorant! What makes this deodorant different than others I have tried is that it is the first creme deodorant to use Activated Charcoal, which absorbs 1,000x its weight in moisture, ensuring there will be no more sweat stains on your clothes! WOOT! It also contains ph-balancing Magnesium Hydroxide (aka Milk of Magnesia) as well as anti-microbial essential oils to help keep odor causing bacteria at bay. After having had enough of toxic conventional deodorants, co-founder Jess decided to create her own. Once she finally decided on a formula she liked, she had her life long friend and co-founder Sarah test it out. Using humid South America as a testing place, they found that this deodorant held up like a champ! Thus, PiperWai was born!

My experience with PiperWai:

I started using this deodorant right when the Summer weather shifted from cool and rainy to hot, humid and 90 degrees (gotta love good old Western NY!). The first thing I noticed was the clean, fresh scent. The second thing I noticed was how moisturizing it was when I applied it and that it rubbed in clear despite the dark grey color. It also did not irritate my skin, even after shaving!

Finally, and happily, I noticed that I still smelled fresh at the end of the day and even into the next morning - even after working out! Also, my underarms and my clothes stayed dry no matter how bad the heat!

I'm so excited to have finally found a natural deodorant that works as well, if not better, as the toxic conventional brands!

Natural Deodorants That Work - Blissoma's New Formulas

Ever since I stopped using conventional deodorants, I've been on the search for the most effective natural sticks/sprays that I could find. I'll be honest, it hasn't been easy. And though I know that are still many I need to check out (including giving cream formulas a try), I was really excited to be asked to test the newly formulated deodorants by Blissoma.

And of course, because I've had my "green beauty eye" on them for quite some time, I was super anxious to start using these new deodorants!

1) Juniper Natural Deodorant Aromatic Spray -  What I like most about this spray is that it dries quickly after application and lasts a long time. It also doesn't irritate my under arms after I've shaved, which is a huge plus for me! The scent is both citrusy and woodsy, but not overpowering and can work for both men and women. As for the odor busting performance - the combination of ingredients such as fennel, black cumin seed oil, as well as the inclusion of Triethyl Citrate (which works to inhibit the enzymatic breakdown of sweat into parts that have an odor) ensure that your pits stay stink free all day! Oh, and no worries about stains on your clothes with this product either! :-)

2) Scentless Stick Mini Solid Natural Deodorant -  The thing I want to address first about this product is the texture. It is dry and slightly "gritty" (probably from the Baking Soda?), so to get this to go on smoothly, I recommend holding it under your arm for a few seconds to let your body heat warm it up a bit, then swipe it on. With that being said, this does a fantastic job of combating odor all day and when used in conjunction with the spray deodorant, it's twice as powerful. As for the ingredients - Baking Soda helps keep odor at bay, while Bentonite Clay helps eliminate toxins from the body and Diatomaceous Earth and Organic Arrowroot Powder absorb sweat. And no worries if you are sensitive to Baking Soda - this formula uses about half the amount found in most other products, yet still retains its efficacy. All in all, I really liked this and thinks it works better at odor control than most of the other natural sticks I have tried.

Product Obsession: Belle Scents

This is the philosophy of Belle Scents, an amazing natural brand that uses only the simplest and purest ingredients around.

I recently had the privilege of sampling two of their beautiful products. Here are my thoughts on each.

1) Derma Butter - A delectable, whipped body butter that can be used on face, body and hair ( got to love those multi-taskers!) and contains skin loving goodies such as organic Shea Nilotica, macadamia nut oil, sea buckthorn, tamanu (my personal fave!), squalene and avena oat oil. All of these ingredients have regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties and are highly nourishing. I loved the light, airy texture and how easily it absorbed into my skin without feeling greasy. I also liked that the scent was very mild so that it wouldn't clash with any other fragrances I may layer on afterwards.

Price - $30 for 4oz

Ingredients - Organic Vitellaria Nilotica (Shea) Fruit Butter, Macadamia Oil, Tamanu Oil, Squalane (Olive based), Oat Oil, Sea Buckthorn C02 Extract, Rosemary C02 Extract.

2) All Natural Deodorant Stick - Of all the green beauty products out there, I think finding a really great, effective natural deodorant is at the top of everyone in the green beauty world's list. Well, I think for me, the search is over. This deodorant not only contains ingredients to halt odor, but to moisturize as well. As far as the effectiveness goes, I really put this one through the grinder when I was testing this and it didn't fail once, not even through my workouts. I love that this is in a tube and I can just swipe it on and that it doesn't leave any residue, doesn't crumble, doesn't contain any questionable ingredients and truly does last all day. 

Price - $14 for 2oz

Ingredients - Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Apis mellifera (Bees) Wax, Organic Butyrospermum parkii (Shea) Butter, Organic Theobroma cacao (Cocoa) Butter, Sodium Bicarbonate, Maranta arundinacea (Arrowroot) Powder,Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Pure Essential Oil Blend.

My final thoughts - Both of these products worked out really well for me and my interest in this brand has definitely been piqued. I love the simplicity of ingredients and packaging, but it's the effectiveness of the products that will have me going back for more.
